PAST EVENTSSunday May 30th, 2010This event was the closing race to the Cayman Classic Series of road race’s organized by the Cayman Cycling Association.
Sunday February 21st, 2010The format for this event was a casual group ride for the first loop and a second race speed loop for all those hard-core cyclists out there! Sunday November 22nd, 2009Pete Stetina, from the USA joined us for this Reefathlon event. He came first breaking the course record set by local rider Jerome Ameline. The Reef is a great destination for relaxation, so when cycling friends asked us to let the world know about our perfect cycling roads, our first thought was “that doesn’t sound relaxing”. Still, cyclists can be very dedicated to their cause, so they persisted, but how best bring together cyclists from Cayman and overseas together to compete, but, more importantly, to relax, have fun and make new friends? We thought about how Cayman is known for “multi-sports” events, but have you seen those crazy triathletes? That “swim, bike, run” idea of one tough event after another? Sure seems like too much work for a vacation to us. Reefathlon then, is simply cycling wrapped in a beach break, where you can replace the “swim” and “run” segments of the “-athlon” with some lazy snorkeling and a leisurely stroll on the beach. Now, as we say at The Reef, “we make relaxing look easy, as we practice hard at it every day”, and we think we are onto a great idea with Reefathlon, so we are taking it very seriously. How seriously? Our race manager is a three time Olympic cyclist and first Caymanian cyclist to win a Gold & Silver medal at the CARIFTA Games Caribbean cycling legend, Craig Merren. Reefathlon is not just a single event though, it represents something more. Our goal is to make The Reef the place to go for cycling vacations in the Caribbean. If you just want to cycle on vacation, we’ll make it easy for you cycle on vacation at The Reef. If you want to time it to enter an event to meet other cyclists, we’ll be putting on regular events so you can plan ahead to come and join in. Photos: Eugene Bonthuys. Copyright Cayman Free Press

From a social ride along the coast to a group ride to various more strenuous events, we’re listening for your ideas. One last thought about Reefathlon. At The Reef we take relaxation seriously, but we also take our broader responsibilities seriously. Reefathlon is then also:
